Gromling Evolution
The Evolution and History of the Fey folk known at the Gromlings
More on Gromlings and their Kin
The Gromlings have many cousins. Evolved from distant ancestors and diverging on paths along the way to give these relatives unique qualities that reflect their own history and environment.
Evolution seems to occur in Gromlings when they live in our world. And just like with creatures born of this world they evolve over time. Adapting to the environmental changes they go through over countless years.
Here is a Forrest Gromling
All Gromlings have a connection to the natural world. They often tend to the environment they have become at one with through evolution. The Forest Gromlings come in all shapes and styles and look after forests and wooded areas. Caring for the trees that have long since fallen asleep and can no longer care for themselves.
This is a Grass Gromling.
The Grass Gromlings live in and around wild meadows and fields. Every so often they may venture to more populated areas, where they would usually stay away from as a rule, being able to blend in with the grass as they move around unnoticed.
Here is one of the Brambleberrie Gromlings.
These little critters can be found among country hedgerows. Feeding on the fruits from the brambles they live amongst.
Gromlings being one of the Fey folk, from the realm of Faery, and so imbued with magical qualities of that place, and themselves being an evolutionary offshoot of a common ancestor of the Cornish Pixie, (or Piskie,) are thought to evolve when in our world, and that this process stops / drastically slows, if in Faery, where creatures and things come into being in many other ways, besides the process of evolution by natural selection.
And a Thornberrie Gromling.
Over the years these Gromlings have adapted to their environment, and have tough skin with spikes and thorns to fend off predators and which help them in blending into the bushes they make their homes in. Close relatives to the Brambleberrie Gromlings, who live in a similar area but have adapted slight differences over the course of time.
A Stone Gromling.
This Gromling has a hide as hard as the rock at the stone quarries they live in.
This is another Stone Gromling but with copper.
Stone Gromlings can be found in abundance around Cornwall. This little crazy eyed critter resides deep within copper mines. Not to be confused with the dreaded TommyKnocker, of which many tales are told. These little guys are nothing but friendly. Even if they have been hit one too many times with a pickaxe by minors.
A Dark Swamp Gromling.
Not all Gromlings are the surfing, nature loving guardians of the natural world and magical realm that we know and love. Some have taken a darker more muddy path.
It is thought that the ancestors of the Gromlings that now live on Nabotoo, and the other islands in the archipelago this island belongs to, are Gromlings frozen in time so to speak! Having gone through their evolutionary change in our world, before crossing over and finding a home back in Faery. And that the evolutionary offshoots sprang from other Gromlings that never made the crossing, or if they did, did not stay for long before returning to our world.
An Aqua Gromling.
These Gromlings can be found in lakes and streams throughout Devon and Cornwall. Over the course of millions of years they have developed the ability to breath underwater. Their physical attributes are one of the most different amongst all known Gromlings through there prolonged existence in aqua-terrestrial dwellings.
But who can really say for sure how this Gromlings fully change and adapt.. The realm of the fey folk holds many mysteries. And even Gromlings evolved over time in our world still have magic of their own. And with a mixture of what natural section and a sprinkling of Faery dust could add then anything might be possible.
The Moorland Spirits
Not an evolutionary species of Gromling, but a spirit of Grlmoings and other faery folks of similar background. These lost souls can be found wondering remote land. With the biggest sighting being on Dartmoor in Devon.
The Spirits of Gromling long since parted.
The colour of the spirits reflect the life the Gromling lived when they lived.
