The Pooka. The Mook.
The faerie creature known as the pooka, can be found in Cornish, Celtic and Welsh mythology, as well as some reports that have found their way across the pond from mainland Europe.
It is a joker, a shapeshifter and a trickster! Often found in the form of an animal, with reports of horses, hares and ravens being prevalent. It may also, on occasion take on a human appearance or that of a goblin type creature.
Oversized animals have also been reported from time to time, with rabbits known to be a popular manifestation.
In this case, with the pooka that finds its way into our tale, we find ourselves dealing with one that may be unique in its appearance across all the reported sightings of this often maligned and misunderstood creature - our pooka is that of a giant penguin, known as The Mook!
A pooka, phouka or púca is often considered to be both the bringer of good fortune and the harbinger of doom. They can interact and even speak to humans using our own language. They are known to change shape and have wily shadows that will often get up to mischief of their own.
They also seem to prefer rural or marine communities to dwell in, and shun bigger towns and cities. And these days their interest in humans seems to have diminished with their presence in our stories now few and far between. But if you look and listen carefully, you may still on occasion, if you are especially lucky, be able to spot one.
Wether you take there advice or guidance is entirely your choice to make. You have been warned!
